Co-owner Michael hopes GRID will be able to teach deaf pupils in the future!
Our charity of the month for July is the National Deaf Children’s Society! This happens to coincide with Michael (co-owner and instructor at GRID Driving School) starting his British Sign Language course!
In Michael’s own words:
“I have wanted to learn sign language for a few years now. I had an experience a few years ago in a coffee shop where a women who was deaf was using BSL to make an order but no one could help or understand her. I made the decision that I wanted to learn BSL in case I am ever in a situation like that again so I would be able to help.
Since starting the business with Phil, we have always hoped that GRID would be a driving school that is able to teach everyone. This is the first step in making sure that this is possible.
I am hoping by the end of the course to be able to communicate about familiar, day to day topics and activities, also hopefully pass Level 1 and move onto Level 2 next year.
The course is designed to give you the skills to communicate confidently and be able to strike up a conversation using BSL.”
We wish Michael all the best!
If you would like to take part in our next Charitable Friday event then please book a lesson for the 26th of July.
